WHO WE ARE NATIONALLY

Virginia Beach Christian Church is a part of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and is affiliated with the Regional Assembly of the Christian Church in Virginia.  The denomination was formally organized in 1832.

The denomination was built upon the New Testament model of the church with the dream that all denominations could work together.  One of the slogans was "Unity in Diversity" which means being different is a gift to one another.  When we, who are different, can work together in love, it is a sign that Christ is in our midst.

FOUR FOUNDING PRINCIPLES OF THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH
(DISCIPLES OF CHRIST)

        • Individual freedom to study and interpret Scripture
        • Restoration of 1st Century Christian practices
        • Unity of all believers
        • Effective evangelism is based on the first three principles.

HOW WE WORK

Elders, Deacons, Deaconesses, and Youth Disciples, as well as Official Board Officers, are elected annually at the congregational meeting.  The church budget is also presented at this time.  While we are self-governing in every respect, we cooperate through local, regional, and national structures in our support of missionary activities, colleges, seminaries, homes for children and adults, plus other programs to spread the Gospel.   Our church is supported by voluntary contributions with members being asked to make commitments annually as an expression of gratitude and obedience to God.
